Man from MP arrested with Rs 14 lakh cash

VADODARA: Varnama police arrested a resident of Madhya Pradesh near Vadadla village in Vadodara taluka late on Saturday night with Rs 14 lakh cash in currency notes grouped by denominations.Police suspect that the man, Subhash Singh Rajput alias Bunty, who hails from Barwani district in MP, had come to Gujarat to buy fake currency. During interrogation, Bunty told police that he wanted smaller denomination notes in exchange of notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000.“He has named a person called Hemant with whom he had exchanged the currency notes. The police are currently trying to trace the owner of the car on the basis of the number plates found in the car. On reaching a distance, the car stopped and two persons fled from the car.

VADODARA: Varnama police arrested a resident of Madhya Pradesh near Vadadla village in Vadodara taluka late on Saturday night with Rs 14 lakh cash in currency notes grouped by denominations.Police suspect that the man, Subhash Singh Rajput alias Bunty, who hails from Barwani district in MP, had come to Gujarat to buy fake currency. Bunty was arrested and booked under Section 41 (1) (d) on suspicion of having committed an offence with reference to the currency notes found from him.Police said that during patrolling at Ratanpur village, they saw a car without a number plate going towards Vadadla village and started following it. On reaching a distance, the car stopped and two persons fled from the car. On checking, cops found Bunty in the car along with three bags of currency notes of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100 denominations. The police also found two number plates from the car which were of Gir-Somnath district.Bunty could not give any satisfactory reply about the cash and he was taken to Varnama police station. During interrogation, Bunty told police that he wanted smaller denomination notes in exchange of notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000.“He has named a person called Hemant with whom he had exchanged the currency notes. But whether the exchanged notes were fake or original can be known only after we nab Hemant and interrogate him,” said H P Parmar, police sub-inspector, Varnama. He added that Bunty has not revealed how he came in contact with Hemant and why he and the other person had fled from the car.Bunty, who owns a printing press in Barwani, told the police that the money was his. The police are currently trying to trace the owner of the car on the basis of the number plates found in the car.
