Vadodara: Bhaveshree Davda and her accomplice Ankit Mehta, who were arrested recently for plotting to usurp government funds and farmer’s money by faking corporate social responsibility in south Gujarat, were booked for cheating and criminal conspiracy at JP Road police station here on Sunday.Davda and her accomplice Mehta conned Mithilesh Patel, a mobile repairer who lives in Diwalipura, by promising him royalty and later a job in innovation projects.Patel told the police that in 2011 he had developed an eco-friendly bike running on hydrogen and electricity for which he got a patent. Mehta approached him in 2013 by learning about his invention through newspapers. According to Patel’s complaint, Mehta offered to buy his patent and by getting commercial clearance planned to produce similar bikes.Police said that Patel was offered Rs 5 lakh for the bike which he had developed and 10% royalty on every bike sold. In October 2013, Patel and the two accused signed an agreement and the complainant was given Rs 1.5 lakh and a post-dated cheque for the remaining amount. The accused asked Patel not to deposit the cheque as they did not have enough balance in their bank account. Meanwhile, Patel trained the accused’s workers to develop the bike. They kept dilly dallying the payment and after some months Patel stopped following up.However, in 2016 Mehta again approached Patel with a job offer in his company. Cops said that Patel was offered a salary of Rs 30,000 and asked to develop innovative products. He was assured that if the product will get clearance from government, he will also be paid royalty. Patel then developed drainage cleaning robot, automatic dustbin, and water pump among other things until last year. When Patel asked for his salary, Mehta kept ignoring his calls and messages. “The last time I had a conversation with him was on June 28. I never complained until now because I was scared as they boasted of political connections,” Patel told TOI. However, when he learnt about Davda’s arrest by Ahwa police, he gathered courage and gave complaint against the duo, who are believed to be married.
