VADODARA: A local police team will soon leave for Uttar Pradesh for tracking down three robbers who had fled from Bapod two days ago. The police said that the fourth robber, Nitesh Chauhan, who was nabbed, had revealed the names and other details of his accomplices.“We have addresses of the three accused — Ankur Chaudhary, Ankit Chaudhary and Bipin Chaudhary — who fled from the spot. Our team will visit their home town and try to trace them on the basis of information gathered. We also have inputs about other hideouts,” said F K Jogal, Bapod police inspector. Chauhan also told that they had planned to rob citizens in different states several months back and had rented a car for 11 months.“They took the car from Haryana by paying Rs 18,000 rent and planned to commit thefts and loots. They would target the victims and leave the same day. Most of them didn’t even file police complaints as the amount they lost was between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000,” Jogal added.Chauhan also told the investigators that one of the gang members had learnt the art of conning people by watching films. The gang used to visit ATMs,waiting for a victim to enter the booth. As the transaction proceeded, the conman used to tell the victim that the transaction was taking too long. The victim was then told to press the yellow button for “cancelling” the transaction. The accused used to ask the victim to step aside so that he could withdraw money. Most of the victims didn’t even know that the transaction is not cancelled by pressing the yellow button. The accused used to enter the PIN marked earlier, and withdraw money from the victim’s account. “They didn’t have any other source of income. After conning people, they used to split the cash amongst themselves,” the police said.
