In morning, the net sessions began at 10 am and ended at 12.30 pm. If senior players behave like this, then it has adverse impact on the junior cricketers in the team as well. Every afternoon at 1.30 pm, I used to have special practice sessions with three selected players,” Arothe told TOI.He claimed that Kaur found these net sessions too long and tiring. Vadodara: Tushar Arothe, who resigned as Indian women’s cricket team coach on Monday, claimed that T20 skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s unwillingness to come out of her comfort zone led to his differences with her and other senior players.Arothe sent his resignation after he met committee of administrators (CoA) member Diana Edulji and BCCI CEO Rahul Johri on July 6 to explain his point of view about the differences between him and some players.“My aim was to improve the team’s on-field performance including fielding. So, I had fixed timings for net practice sessions. In morning, the net sessions began at 10 am and ended at 12.30 pm. In the evening, the session was held between 3.30 pm and 5 pm. Every afternoon at 1.30 pm, I used to have special practice sessions with three selected players,” Arothe told TOI.He claimed that Kaur found these net sessions too long and tiring. “She complained about it to the cricket board last month. But we had followed the same session schedule ahead of ODI World Cup last year and later in other tournaments as well. It worked well for the team as we reached finals and performed good in South Africa tour too,” Arothe said and added, “No one complained then. I don’t know why Kaur suddenly felt that the net sessions are gruelling.”Arothe was appointed as India women’s team coach in April last year.He also said that Kaur was unwilling to attend fielding sessions. “Kaur is a good batsman but she needs to field well along with other team members. I thought that if, I as a coach, and the team staff is willing to put in more efforts, then why can’t players do the same?,” he added. When asked if only Kaur had issues with his coaching style, Arothe said that some other senior players didn’t say anything in his favour so they may have views similar to Kaur.Arothe said that he explained his side to the BCCI committee during the meeting on July and some members agreed with him too.“But I wasn’t willing to continue as there was complete atmosphere of distrust. If senior players behave like this, then it has adverse impact on the junior cricketers in the team as well. So I decided to resign. I am surprised that the BCCI too entertained such complaint,” Arothe, whose contract was to end in November this year, said.He said that he was also unhappy as the Indian team’s camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA) was abruptly called off without intimating him just because the team lost to Bangladesh in the finals of Women’s Asia Cup T20 title at Malaysia in June this year.Arothe also said that the accusations of him interfering too much in the on-field decisions were not true.Arothe now plans to spend some time with his family in Vadodara before leaving for the Middle East. “I have some offers from the US and middle-east so I am considering the options,” he said.
