Cops accused of bootlegging denied bail

Vadodara: A sessions court in Chhota Udepur denied bails to three cops who were arrested last month after Indian-made foreign liquor worth Rs 39,510 was found from the old building of Kadwal police station.Police sub-inspector J B Katara and two LRD jawans — Ranjitsinh Sisodiya and Kanu Kamadiya — posted at Kadwal police station in Chhota Udepur, were released on bail by a lower court in Pavi Jetpur on June 18.However, the local crime branch of Chhota Udepur that raided the old building where Katara lived and submitted an application in Chhota Udepur sessions court challenging the lower court’s order.On Wednesday, after conducting hearings the court turned down the lower court’s order and rejected bail to the three cops. The court asked the trio to surrender themselves before the lower court in Pavi Jetpur.Around 265 bottles were found from Katara’s house in the old building of police station by a team of local crime branch, special operations group and the parole furlough squad of Chhota Udepur police on June 15.When Katara was asked about the liquor stock, he admitted that he had stocked the liquor bottles illegally.He and the two LRD jawans would divert liquor bottles seized during raids, police said.
