Daylong downpour keeps city on edge

Apart from Vadodara city, Padra and Karjan recorded 40 mm rainfall while Dabhoi got 55 mm and Waghodia 26 mm between 8 am and 8 pm on Thursday. A vehicle parked near the road fell in the 25-feet deep pit but no one suffered injuries. Traffic moved at a snail’s pace due to poor road condition.In Padra, a road in a by-lane caved in near the main market. District collector Shalini Agrawal said that high alert was issued in five villages of Dabhoi taluka, but the water began receding by evening. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple near Lalbaug was submerged in waist-deep waters along with the adjacent lake that overflowed on the road.Rain water flooded basements of many commercial complexes in the old city.
