Vadodara: Newly-appointed municipal commissioner Ajay Bhadoo seems to have his task cut out in the coming days. After taking charge as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) chief, Bhadoo said that his priorities would be basic services in the city.After being welcomed to the city, Bhadoo held a long meeting with VMC officials understanding their departments and functioning of the civic body. After the meeting he said that services like cleanliness, water, roads and drainage would be his first priority.Bhadoo pointed out that while taking care of these he would also try to ensure that the system becomes more responsive to the needs of the people. He added that another focus area will be taking forward good projects in different sectors. Notably, some of these projects have hit major roadblocks.According to Bhadoo, he would also try to get to the root cause of several issues being faced by the city and address them. “Besides taking care of these problems in the short run, we will try to address them in a manner that they do not recur,” he said.Even before Bhadoo could settle in his new office, the opposition welcomed him with a memorandum and a letter. State Congress general secretary Narendra Ravat and his wife and municipal councillor Ami Ravat submitted a memorandum to Bhadoo listing out 10 major civic issues that needed to be addressed in the city.Former opposition leader and former deputy mayor Chirag Zaveri also wrote a letter to Bhadoo regarding the present situation of the civic body. Zaveri laid stress on the fact that the financial condition of the VMC was bad and needed to be taken care of on a priority.
