VUDA has collected development charge and in return, residents expect some development in their areas,” said Mehta.“The main problem is about drainage. As VUDA, we are ready to pay whatever charges are applicable so that we can temporarily resolve the drainage problem,” he said. We have approached VMC municipal commissioner and apprised Vadodara district collector, who also holds charge of VUDA chairman, about this grave situation. We want to extend the network of this STP for some TPs of Bill and Sevasi. If there is no immediate intervention, we will witness an outbreak of water-borne diseases.

VADODARA: The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) tasted fury of residents of nearly 50 societies of Bill, Kalali and Bhayli areas on Friday noon when hundreds of residents thronged the VUDA office to make representation against absence of basic infrastructure in this rapidly developing areas.Residents of housing societies of these areas which account for nearly 25,000 residents said that despite several representations in the last four years, VUDA which collects development charges, has not bothered to lay a single motorable road in the areas. In absence of drainage network and motorable roads, people are forced to wade knee-deep water-logged stretches where drainage water gets accumulated with rainwater.“Despite much of the real estate development happening in this areas, people cannot move out of their houses to reach their workplace, kids cannot attend schools while even 108 ambulance cannot reach our society because of heavy waterlogging,” said S K Misra, a resident of Sun Villas – a society located on Atladra-Bill Road. Both Bill sarpanch Jay Bhatt and Dabhoi MLA Shailesh Mehta alias Sotta, who had joined the residents to make representation before VUDA chief executive authority (CEA) D B Rahevar demanded that the authorities should take immediate action to bring an end to the problems of the residents.“It is a fact that there are no motorable roads, no street-lights and neither any drainage network. VUDA has collected development charge and in return, residents expect some development in their areas,” said Mehta.“The main problem is about drainage. If there is no immediate intervention, we will witness an outbreak of water-borne diseases. I have asked the authorities that even as they work upon some permanent solution, they should find and expedite the process to bring some temporary solution to the drainage problem. At the same time, they should make some arrangements to make the roads at least temporary motorable,” he said.“As VUDA has failed to bring any solution since last four years, with every monsoon, there is an outbreak of dengue, malaria and swine flu cases,” said Sonal Patel, a resident of Atladra-Bill Road.“On one hand there are Swachh Bharat and measles-rubella vaccination campaigns. But on other hand, VUDA’s lethargic attitude is forcing us to live under inhumane conditions,” said Khevna Soni, a resident of Kalali.VUDA CEA admitted that problems raised by residents were genuine.“As a long term solution, a sewage treatment plant (STP) for Bhayli TPs is under construction. We want to extend the network of this STP for some TPs of Bill and Sevasi. But it will take at least a year before the STP becomes operational,” said VUDA CEA Rahevar.“The only immediate solution available to us is to utilise the existing adjacent drainage network of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). We have approached VMC municipal commissioner and apprised Vadodara district collector, who also holds charge of VUDA chairman, about this grave situation. As VUDA, we are ready to pay whatever charges are applicable so that we can temporarily resolve the drainage problem,” he said.
