Lawyers to finally use tables, chairs on new court campus

  • | Sunday | 22nd July, 2018

Principal district judge J C Doshi informed the president of the BBA about these on Saturday.Lawyers have been allowed to use three rooms in the advocates’ building and one room in the main court building to place their tables and chairs. The bar association will have to frame rules for the allotment and pass a resolution before getting it approved by the high court. However, the tables and chairs will have to be uniform – of the same size, shape and design – and the costs will have to be borne by the advocates. The allotment committee will have the principal district judge as member and chairman. The lawyers’ grievance, that they will have to walk from the advocates’ building and to the main building between hearings, has also been resolved, as one room each on all four floors of the main building will be a waiting room for them. While one room on the ground floor of the main building of the court has been granted to them, lawyers will have to vacate it as soon as the building for them is constructed.Another condition is that the allotment has to be fair, transparent and equitable.

Vadodara: After agitating for more than four months and slowly losing hope, advocates in the city finally have a solution for their seating woes at the court campus. After a series of meetings between representatives of the Baroda Bar Association (BBA) and justices of the Gujarat high court, as a special case, the HC has decided to allow advocates to use tables and chairs, but with certain conditions. Principal district judge J C Doshi informed the president of the BBA about these on Saturday.Lawyers have been allowed to use three rooms in the advocates’ building and one room in the main court building to place their tables and chairs. The allotment committee will have the principal district judge as member and chairman. The lawyers’ grievance, that they will have to walk from the advocates’ building and to the main building between hearings, has also been resolved, as one room each on all four floors of the main building will be a waiting room for them. A hall on the first floor of the advocates’ building will be a common room for advocates. The HC also asked the advocates to give an undertaking through a resolution of the bar association, that they will not place floor mats or furniture in the corridors or lobbies of the court building. It was suggested that the furniture placed in the advocates’ building, which had become the bone of contention, should be sent to lower courts or other courts in the state. The BBA will now call a general meeting to pass a resolution accepting the terms, and the plan will be implemented.Library gets two roomsMembers of the bar library, who ran out of patience after waiting for four months had started an open library in the corridor of the main building, will now be able to read citations and check judgements in peace, as two rooms on second floor have been allotted for the library.
