Road contractor booked for cheating VMC of Rs 8 crore

The firm has been accused of cheating the civic body to the tune of Rs 8.33crore.Deputy executive engineer of the road department of the civic body Narendra Rabari registered the offence on Friday night. VADODARA: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) registered an offence of forgery and cheating against Divya Simandhar Constrution Private Ltd (DSCPL) at the Navapura police station regarding the alleged fraud in road construction works. The offence accuses the firm of cheating and forgery amongst other offences. The contractor should have used VG30 grade bitumen for laying the roads. The invoice number, numbers of trucks used to transport the bitumen and the quantity invoices also did not tally.

The firm has been accused of cheating the civic body to the tune of Rs 8.33crore.Deputy executive engineer of the road department of the civic body Narendra Rabari registered the offence on Friday night. The offence accuses the firm of cheating and forgery amongst other offences. Tushar Shah from the firm has also been named as an accused.The offence states that a vigilance inquiry was conducted regarding the work done by the company on three roads in 2014 and 2015. The roads under scanner include the one from Harinagar crossroads to Rajesh Tower, Old Padra Road to Ward 11 office in Diwalipura and the one from Dumad crossroads to Gabbar Apartment via Amitnagar Circle.DSCPL had submitted 99 invoices of bitumen that was used for the construction of the roads. After representations of irregularities in the works, the VMC had conducted the vigilance inquiry and tallied the bills for bitumen with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd IOCL ).It came to light that only 13 invoices were genuine while the rest were dubious. The invoice number, numbers of trucks used to transport the bitumen and the quantity invoices also did not tally. It came to light that the contractor had defrauded the civic body to the tune of Rs 8.33crore.The offence also alleges that the 13 invoices that could be verified were also of VG10 grade bitumen. The contractor should have used VG30 grade bitumen for laying the roads.
