Row ends over Panchmahal district panchayat committees

VADODARA: The row over appointments of members to various committees that was threatening to turn into a full-fledged rebellion in Panchmahal district panchayat died down after the BJP decided to withdraw the mandate it had issued earlier. The rebels had earlier stated that they were not taken into confidence and the decision regarding the committees was taken unilaterally. Members of the remaining committees were made by the rebels on their own.While the rebels had violated the party mandate, they categorically said they continued to support the president of the district panchayat and the party. With the situation not getting resolved despite repeated efforts, the meeting on Saturday was called.Sources said the party will now issue a fresh mandate and take the rebels into confidence.

VADODARA: The row over appointments of members to various committees that was threatening to turn into a full-fledged rebellion in Panchmahal district panchayat died down after the BJP decided to withdraw the mandate it had issued earlier. The rebel group that was in majority in the panchayat also agreed to ensure that the members it had elected in violation of the mandate of the party would step down.The compromise was reached after state BJP vice-president Bhargav Bhatt and other party members held a meeting with the 29 members of the party in the panchayat. The meeting was called after only one of the eight committees of Panchayat was elected as per the party mandate. Members of the remaining committees were made by the rebels on their own.While the rebels had violated the party mandate, they categorically said they continued to support the president of the district panchayat and the party. With the situation not getting resolved despite repeated efforts, the meeting on Saturday was called.Sources said the party will now issue a fresh mandate and take the rebels into confidence.
