Man gets lifer for killing wife by setting her ablaze

Patanvadiya was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment for murder charges and a simple imprisonment for one year for domestic violence. However, before Padma succumbed Patanvadiya doused the fire and called the ambulance. Padma was rushed to SSG Hospital where she gave a statement before an executive magistrate.In her statement Padma mentioned that Patanvadiya was drunk and had set her ablaze after her sister and brother-in-law left. During the trial, the court upheld the statements of Padma before the executive magistrate and the police. Two days later, Padma’s father lodged a complaint of domestic violence and attempt to murder against Patanvadiya and another statement of Padma was recorded by police.

VADODARA: A 30-year-old man from Karjan , who killed his wife in October 2016 by setting her ablaze as he was annoyed by his in-laws’ visit to their home, was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a sessions court here on Monday.Kirit alias Jignesh Patanvadiya had poured kerosene on her wife Padma and set her ablaze as he was annoyed by the visit of Padma’s sister and brother-in-law. However, before Padma succumbed Patanvadiya doused the fire and called the ambulance. Padma was rushed to SSG Hospital where she gave a statement before an executive magistrate.In her statement Padma mentioned that Patanvadiya was drunk and had set her ablaze after her sister and brother-in-law left. She also stated that Patanvadiya used to harass her and often resort to abuses and assaulted her. Two days later, Padma’s father lodged a complaint of domestic violence and attempt to murder against Patanvadiya and another statement of Padma was recorded by police. But after the case was registered Padma succumbed to her injuries and Patanvadiya was also charged with murder.Patanvadiya was arrested and was tried in sessions court here. During the trial, the court upheld the statements of Padma before the executive magistrate and the police. It also relied on the executive magistrate’s testimony to convict Patanvadiya. Patanvadiya was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment for murder charges and a simple imprisonment for one year for domestic violence. He was also slapped with a fine of Rs 3,000.
