Vadodara: She had been waiting to get a good offer from Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) for last four years. Opportunity finally came for former woman cricketer Mangala Babar from unexpected quarters. Babar has got an offer to join Uttarakhand Cricket Association (UCA) as a selector in the woman’s cricket. And, she has accepted it too.“I had been in talks with the UCA for last few months but the offer letter came a couple of days ago. I have accepted the offer and will soon join the UCA,” an elated Babar told TOI. Babar will be a selector for the UCA’s senior women’s team, Under-19 team and Under-23 team. She was a member of BCA women’s cricket selection committee in 2011-12 and then became chairperson of the same committee for the next two seasons. However, Babar later got an offer to join as junior women’s cricket selector reportedly due to factionalism in the association. She, however, turned down the offer. “I had been waiting to get a good offer. This is a good opportunity for me,” she said. The Lodha Committee’s recommendations accepted by Supreme Court have made it mandatory to make experienced ex-cricketers a part of the selection committee and Babar said that the UCA approached her due to her experience.Babar had played for Baroda senior women’s team from 1979 to 1994. She was a part of the Indian World Cup squad in 1982 but couldn’t make it to the playing XI. Babar had also played in a match between England and India but that match wasn’t considered as an international game. Babar works as an inspector in income tax department in the city.
