Vadodara: Seven persons, including a Congress leader, were booked by the Manjalpur police on Monday after they ransacked two state transport buses during the Bharat Bandh call that was given by the opposition parties.The incident occurred in Manjalpur area at about 11.30 am when the buses that came from Makarpura bus depot were heading towards central bus depot in Sayajigunj.A group of protesters intercepted the buses, asked the passengers to get off and began pelting stones at it.Glass windows of the buses were shattered in the incident but no one suffered any injury. The police rushed to the spot and caught hold of one of them who was identified as Harendrasinh Rajpurohit. The cops have also booked several other unidentified protestors who were present at the spot.Police said that it detained about 75 protestors including members of Congress party and other organizations that were supporting the bandh call given to protest against rising prices of fuel in the country. The bandh call received a mixed response as shops and offices in most areas functioned normally. Most of the private schools, however, remained closed.Some unidentified protestors burnt tyres in eight different areas of the city and also pelted stones at a city bus opposite railway station late on Sunday night. Congress general secretary, Narendra Rawat said that the bandh call received good response in the city.In other districts, the bandh call evoked mixed response in Panchmahals including Godhra town. While the shutdown saw a good response in some towns of Dahod district, it was partial in some others like Dahod town itself and Limkheda. Former Godhra MLA Rajendrasinh Patel, Balashinor MLA Ajitsinh Chauhan and other party members were detained by the police.In Chhota Udepur town, the bandh call saw a mixed response. Sangramsinh Rathwa, son of former junior railway minister Naran Rathwa, went around Chhota Udepur town with other Congress workers forcing shopkeepers to down the shutters. The police, however, detained him and others later.
