Super Cop bikes to help rein in chainsnatchers

Vadodara: In a bid to arrest the rising incidents of chain-snatchings in the city, the police have deployed Super Cop Bikes in different areas. We have got some clues about them and we are hoping to nab them soon,” Gahlaut added. The police said these gangs may be getting some local support too. “This gang is from other state. Fourteen cops will ride on eight super bikes that have been modified to suit the purpose of the police department.City police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut said, “These bikes will be used to patrol spots near temples and gardens that are frequently visited by senior citizens.” They will keep an eye on the area and also intercept any suspicious elements.

These bikes will be used for patrolling between 6.30am and 9.30am and from 5.30pm to 8.30pm to prevent incidents of chain-snatching.DCP (headquarters) Manish Singh said the same bikes will then be used for patrolling by other cops in communally sensitive areas of the city late in the night.The crime branch has also formed a squad of eight-member, including sleuths from the special operations group (SOG), prevention of crime branch (PCB) and detection of crime branch (DCB). The move came after a gang of chain-snatchers targeted five women within a matter of few hours and fled with their jewellery some days ago.The police said that the gang that targeted five women and snatched their gold chains within a matter of few hours is from outside the city. “This gang is from other state. We have got some clues about them and we are hoping to nab them soon,” Gahlaut added. The police said these gangs may be getting some local support too.
