VADODARA: A sexual harassment complaint, filed by a girl student, has rocked M S University campus. The girl studying in BA first year at MSU’s Faculty of Arts had submitted a complaint of being sexually harassed by a teacher of Urdu department.Based on the complaint filed by the student, the faculty has sacked Dr Mohammed Zubair, who was a visiting faculty at the Urdu department.Confirming the development, Dr K Krishnan, dean of the faculty told TOI that the faculty officials on Tuesday received a complaint from a girl student that the accused teacher had made objectionable advances.“The girl student had complained that the teacher had misbehaved with her and indecently touched her amounting to sexual harassment," he said.As soon as the faculty received the complaint, the faculty convened a meeting of the women’s grievance committee.“The committee recorded statements of the victim and the accused teacher. The committee had come to the conclusion that the act of the accused teacher amounted to sexual harassment and the visiting faculty was in fact guilty of harassing the girl student,” he said.“Based on the committee’s report, we have removed the visiting faculty,” said Krishnan.The visiting faculty was taking lectures at the Urdu department since last three months. Last year, too, the accused teacher was a visiting faculty at the department.“We had not received any complaint against him in the past. Now, we have removed him and we will shortly start the process of appointing another visiting faculty, who can continue teaching at the department,” said Krishnan.
