Exhibition with virtual tour of ancient stepwells begins

Vadodara: Barodians have got an opportunity to visually experience the architecture beauty of ancient step wells and reservoirs of western India as a three days exhibition on the step wells and reservoirs of western India has begun in the city on Friday.The Department of Museology of MS University in collaboration with the Center for Art and Archaeology, a division of the American Institute of Indian Studies, New Delhi has organised the photographic exhibition at the exhibition hall of Faculty of Fine Arts that will continue till Sunday.The exhibition displays canvas prints of the UNESCO-declared World Heritage site ‘Rani Ki Vav’, the Adalaj and Modhera monuments apart from the stepwells from Baroli, Rajasthan.Interestingly, the exhibition also includes a virtual tour through which the visitors can walk through ‘Rani Ki Vav’ experiencing how it feels like stepping inside the stepwells, the different levels, the open spaces and the spectacular sculptures that adorn the heritage site.The concept of virtual tour through exhibition which has been made possible with the support of the American institute is being introduced for the first time in the city.“With the help of this virtual tour, we can make the monuments accessible to those who cannot access the heritage sites and know the architecture beauty,” said Dr Ambika Patel, organiser of the exhibition.On Saturday, as part of extension activity, children from a school have been invited at the exhibition.
