Vadodara: An accused involved in a series of offences at Lunawada in Mahisagar district managed to give cops a slip on Friday. The gangster was to be detained under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA), but managed to escape.Farooq Arab alias Dero, accused in 14 cases, had allegedly fired upon Rashid Ahmed and his brother Anis Ahmed in Lunawada last year. Farooq’s brother Arif Arab was also nabbed as an accused in the case in which bother Rashid and Anis were injured in firing. Farooq was convicted in the case and was recently granted bail by the Gujarat high court, said police sources.Officials in the Lunawada police said that a team of Lunawada police had gone to serve the PASA warrant to Farooq, but Farooq saw the team and escaped. Sources said that the warrant was issued before the conviction and had not been implemented yet.Lunawada police sub-inspector Mahavirsinh Barad said that Farooq escaped even before the police could reach him. “It is not that he was nabbed by the police and then he escaped,” he said.Different branches of the Mahisagar district police were alerted regarding the accused giving the police a slip. A major manhunt was launched to nab the accused.
