Duo to represent India at World Robot Olympiad

Vadodara: Two kids from the city will represent India at Thailand in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) where they will compete with teams from over 60 countries.Hriday Parikh, 11 and Rishiraj Behki, 12 have emerged as national winners in the national round of WRO 2018.After beating 75 teams from across the country, Hriday and Rishiraj, bagged gold medal in the nationals that were held in Ahmedabad Sunday last.The duo – who took part in the olympiad as Zepto Rira-Heartz team – will represent India at the international round that will be held from November 16-18 at Thailand.Another team – Zepto-ABCD comprising of Aabir Sarkar, 12, Bhooshan Vijay, 11 and Chitrarth Buch, 11 won silver medal by ending up at second spot.It is for the second time that Hriday has won at the national round of this olympiad. Even in 2016, when he was just nine years old, Hriday had won the national round of WRO.Since 2004, WRO is organized every year in various countries by a committee of 60 plus countries making it a global robotics event.In this annual competition, children have to build robots and program them to complete a given task in the fastest time.This year, the theme of the competition was ‘Reduce food waste’ and students were given a task to build a robot to sort food products according to their looks and expiration dates and transport the sorted food to places that can make use of the food instead of wasting it.Both the teams were mentored by coach Mukesh Ganga Sagar Bind from Zepto Learning which trains students to learn science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts by applying what they learn in school to build working models and programming them.
