Two months since accident MSU yet to fix windows

Vadodara: Nearly two months have passed since a girl student suffered severe head injuries after an iron window fell on her near the Faculty of Arts. But the MSU authorities are yet to fix the windows back on the dilapidated building.It was on September 25 that a second-year student of the faculty had to be rushed to SSG Hospital after the accident that happened near the canteen area of the faculty. The iron window that was dangling on the third floor of the Department of Sociology fell on her when a monkey had jumped on it. MSU vice-chancellor professor Parimal Vyas had issued directives to fix all the old and dilapidated buildings including their beams, columns, slabs, doors and windows and asked the construction division to submit an action taken report to him on October 10.But it seems there is hardly any action on the ground as the university had brought down the windows of the sociology building. Fortunately, two other girl students had escaped unhurt.After the mishap that exposed the dilapidated buildings across the campus, the university’s top brass had asked the construction division to carry out preventive measures and repair works within a fortnight.

The windows are yet to be re-installed.With incomplete work, rooms of sociology department are providing free movement to all kinds of birds and monkeys.When questioned, MSU’s in-charge registrar N K Ojha said that the orders for fixing the windows were already issued to contractor before Diwali vacation.“We had asked the contractor to fix the windows which are in critical condition and the work is under progress,” he said, assuring that he will expedite the process.
