VADODARA: The race for the post of regular dean of M S University’s Faculty of Science is heating up on the university campus.As the tenure of professor A C Sharma, who had enjoyed two terms as dean of the prestigious faculty, came to an end, the university has appointed professor Haribhai Kataria as officiating dean of the faculty. Kataria, head of the Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science, took charge on Thursday after MSU vice-chancellor issued notification of his appointment on Wednesday.Sources said that a total of 13 teachers of the faculty are eligible for the post of dean. Of these, six candidates had submitted their applications as Sharma’s tenure was coming to an end. They include three female teachers and three male teachers. Apart from Kataria, two teachers from the Department of Statistics including professor K Muralidharan and professor Rakesh Srivastava have also submitted their applications.The three female teachers include professor Sarita Gupta from Department of Biochemistry, professor Sandhya Garge from Department of Botany and professor Rolee Kanchan from the Department of Geography.Kataria, who has earlier served as dean of students at the faculty, was so far serving as vice-dean of the faculty while he continues to be university proctor. In February this year, he was elected uncontested to the university’s syndicate body from the head of department constituency.
