Trader robbed of cash at gunpoint

The robbery cannot be committed successfully until an insider gives a tip,” said deputy superintendent of police R I Desai. Sensing that they had come to buy something, Shah asked them what they wanted.

Vadodara: Four persons robbed a trader in Godhra of Rs 1.2 lakh at gunpoint late on Saturday night.The victim Sureshchandra Shah (71), who has an ancestral general store in Orwada village near Godhra, was leaving for home with his daily cash collection when the four robbers brandished an air gun and robbed him.Shah told police that the persons went near his shop minutes after he sat in his car. Sensing that they had come to buy something, Shah asked them what they wanted. When they told him that they wanted to buy cement, Shah asked them to come the next day as the shop had closed and started to leave from there. But as his car moved little ahead, one of the robbers stopped him by standing in front of the vehicle.The accused took out a gun and fired a shot. But Shah understood that it was an air gun as the firing did not make much sound and his car’s windshield was also intact.Meanwhile, another person opened the car’s door and barged inside. Shah said that before he could realize the situation, the accused took away the bag of cash and they all started running. Shah’s two employees who were nearby heard his shouts for help. They too ran behind them to nab them. The accused managed to flee on the road towards Dahod on their bikes. Shah said that his employees even followed them on their vehicles but the robbers could not be seen.Police said that an insider could have been involved. “The robbers knew the time when Shah used to leave daily with cash. The robbery cannot be committed successfully until an insider gives a tip,” said deputy superintendent of police R I Desai.
