International buddhist meet in Vadodara

"People believe that Buddhist sites exist only in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, but Gujarat too has many Buddhist sites. VADODARA: An international Buddhist conference will be held in city on November 25. Founder of Sangha Kaya Foundation Bhante Prashil Ratna said that the conference will have discussions revolving around the Buddhist heritage sites in Gujarat. The conference to be held at CC Mehta auditorium at MS University will be organized by Gujarat-based Sangha Kaya Foundation and city-based Sankalp Bhoomi Trust. The relics are currently in the possession of MS University's Department of Archaeology and Ancient History.Besides Indian delegates, people from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Australia and Italy will also participate in the conference.

Chinese travellers who came to Gujarat centuries ago have mentioned in their books and many of them even studied at Buddhist Knowledge Centre at Vallabhi in Bhavnagar," said Prashil Ratna.He added that conference will also mark the 55th anniversary of discovery of Buddha's relics from Dev Ni Mori village in north Gujarat. The relics are currently in the possession of MS University's Department of Archaeology and Ancient History.Besides Indian delegates, people from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Australia and Italy will also participate in the conference.
