Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) that is eyeing to introduce state-of-the-art technology for waste management will procure equipment for mechanized cleaning of both sewage lines and streets.The civic body had recently included this and others as a part of its Smart City proposals while dropping some other projects.The VMC that is eyeing to improve sanitation and cleanliness in the city and improve its position in the Swachhta rankings, will now be procuring equipment to clear drainages in the city and sweep streets. The civic body already has equipment for this, but these are not sufficient for regular cleaning across the city.Presently, the VMC has six super suckers to clean underground sewage lines and six road sweepers that clean the roads and remove the dust from them. Effectively, the VMC has one of these machines for every two wards. This makes regular cleaning in each of the 12 administrative wards difficult.The VMC is now eyeing to procure four more super suckers and four road sweepers to ensure regular cleaning across the city. “Apart from the regular cleaning that has to be done, the machines – particularly the super sucker for sewage lines – are in high demand whenever there is a drainage issue,” said an official.The civic body has already advertised tenders for procurement of the new machines. These will be placed before the Smart City company floated by the civic body that will clear them.
