Vadodara: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) organized a public meeting under the banner of Virat Hindu Sammelan in the city on Sunday, demanding a law for construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.The meeting held at Navlakhi ground was attended by saints and leaders of Vaishnav, Swaminarayan and several other sects besides mayor, deputy mayor, MP and many BJP MLAs and councillors from the city. A memorandum was submitted to MP Ranjan Bhatt.Addressing the meeting, VHP’s national secretary Umashankar Sharma said Supreme Court will take its own time to decide on the issue, but the government should clear the way for construction of the temple by making a law for it. “The Chief Justice of India said he has more important issues before him, but we have hope now and are confident that this government will make a law before elections and MPs across the party lines should vote in favour of the law,” he said.Sharma also said when the country became independent in 1947, people had hopes of ‘Ram Rajya’. “Sardar Patel rebuilt Somnath Temple, so Hindus were hopeful that Ram temple will be built on the land where Babri masjid existed, but the then government wore secular cloaks and took care of only one community,” Sharma added.“The VHP united saints and Hindus through its platform and we are still united, but the temple has not yet been built because of secular forces. But Ram temple is our self-respect and a Ram ‘bhakt’ will only build it,” Sharma said, adding that, “No compromise will ever be done with the movement. Thrice in the past governments have changed because of the issue of Ram temple.”
