Medical store gutted in market area, close shave for residents

Vadodara: A major fire broke out in a medical store near busy Khanderao Market crossroads on Tuesday morning triggering panic among the local residents.A short-circuit in the office room in the rear part of the medical store Anudivya Medicals sparked fire due to which the entire shop got gutted. The fire quickly spread to other parts of the 60-foot long store. “There were several bottles of deodorant which were exploding as they are filled with gas therefore we tried to enter the store from its backdoor. A family living above the medical store had to be evacuated as the smoke had spread right up to the third floor of the building.According to fire department sources, diapers, cotton and bandages kept near the office room were the first items to catch fire. As the store was closed, smoke got accumulated inside and spread to the upper floor through staircase area which is close to the office room.Fire officials said that the family living in the building quickly ran out when they sensed smoke in their house.

As the store was closed, smoke got accumulated inside and spread to the upper floor through staircase area which is close to the office room.Fire officials said that the family living in the building quickly ran out when they sensed smoke in their house. Later, a woman was rescued by fire fighters using an extension ladder.When the firemen opened the shutter of the store, they could hear blasts and smoke emanating out making it difficult for them to enter. “There were several bottles of deodorant which were exploding as they are filled with gas therefore we tried to enter the store from its backdoor. However, that was also becoming difficult as there were poisonous fumes of balms and other ointments,” said fire officer I I Sheikh of Dandiya Bazaar fire station.The firemen had to use masks breathing apparatus system to enter the shop. It took them more than an hour to control the fire. Sheikh said that even after the fire was doused, many medicines stacked up in showcases and drawers were still burning.Police also had to be called in as a huge crowd had gathered as the shop lies on the main road.
