VADODARA: Railway minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday expressed confidence that Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project will be commissioned as per its target of 2023.“We have already received land for setting up main stations in Mumbai and Ahmedabad,” he said, adding that the target to run bullet train between Surat-Bilimora section in 2022 will also be achieved.“We don’t want to put pressure on anybody to acquire their land. There are landowners who have themselves started giving consent for land acquisition,” he said, adding that the project is being opposed by some for ‘political reasons’.Earlier in his speech, the railway minister said even when Rajdhani was proposed – the idea had met with resistance 50 years ago.“The Railway Board chairman himself had opposed Rajdhani questioning the need for running such a train. When bullet train was sanctioned, we faced objections,” he said.“I would not have cared if only some politicians would have opposed it. But we saw even those who had used such modern facilities abroad, opposing the bullet train project and making adverse statements,” he said.Goyal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned the project so that most modern facilities are available even to the common man.
