‘Key accused in NRI property case may be innocent’

Vadodara: Investigations into the NRI property cheating case has revealed that Sunanda Patel, one of the key accused, may not have been involved in the crime. But the cheques given to Sunanda were for her own property on Jetalpur Road. “During investigations, we learnt that Sunanda wanted to sell off her bungalow on Jetalpur Road. “Lopa Dave, who had filed the complaint of cheating earlier, felt that the money given to Sunanda was for her property in Haribhakti Colony. So, Rs 99 lakh were transferred to Sunanda’s bank account in two instalments by cheque.

Vadodara: Investigations into the NRI property cheating case has revealed that Sunanda Patel, one of the key accused, may not have been involved in the crime. Police said that 76-year-old Sunandaa got her statement recorded in front of a magistrate under CrPC 164 and has now has now approached the cops to file a complaint of cheating against eight persons.According to the crime branch, Sunanda’s name came up in the case as Rs 99 lakh were transferred to her joint account with her husband Raman Patel last year. “During investigations, we learnt that Sunanda wanted to sell off her bungalow on Jetalpur Road. However, someone came and told her that her bungalow has already been sold off. When Sunanda said that she would approach the cops, she got an offer from Dharamveersinh Jadeja for buying her property,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP (crime).Jadeja offered over Rs one crore as initial payment for the deal following which Sunanda agreed to sell her property. So, Rs 99 lakh were transferred to Sunanda’s bank account in two instalments by cheque. “Lopa Dave, who had filed the complaint of cheating earlier, felt that the money given to Sunanda was for her property in Haribhakti Colony. But the cheques given to Sunanda were for her own property on Jetalpur Road. The deal documents for her Jetalpur Road property mention numbers of the cheque given to her,” Jadeja told TOI.Sunanda has now approached the police to file complaint against eight persons including Jadeja, Dilip Patel and others for using bogus power of attorney for selling off her property in much lesser price.
