Chinese lantern sparks fire

Fire spread quickly across the godown within a few minutes due to presence of plastic and other waste materials. Yet a few were sighted in some areas on Tuesday.Another fire was reported from a residential apartment near Sardar Estate. Plastic waste materials stored in the godown caught fire when a Chinese lantern fell on it.Fire officials said more than half of the area of the godown is covered by shed, but the lantern fell where there was no shed. Vadodara: A scrap godown in Somatalav area was gutted after a burning Chinese lantern fell on it here on Tuesday evening.According to fire department sources, they received a call from residents of Somatalav around 8pm to inform about the fire that broke out in the godown of Asif Scrap Traders. The fire was quickly brought under control, but the house in Faiz-e-Karam Apartment was filled with smoke due to which exhaust fans had to be used.
