Major ruckus erupts at MSUrsquos law faculty

“This is a fight between two students group in which I am being made a scapegoat. But the fact is that there are no classes that are conducted at the faculty till 8.30 am or 9 am,” said a LLM student, adding that delayed results in general and results of second year bachelors and LLM students have also not been uploaded despite numerous request.The students group alleged that the faculty administration is working in collusion with contractor as the authorities are not taking any strict action even as the construction activity is not being completed on time.Mehta, however told TOI that the allegations levelled by the students group are baseless. The fact remains that the coordination of the national youth summit was done by another group of students, who apparently had not taken the FGS and others in confidence,” said Mehta.“The summit was organised in partnership with the Institute of Leadership and Governance (ILG) and I did not have any role to play in cancelling the invitation that was extended to Subramanian Swamy,” she said.“I am available at the faculty for any grievance of students,” she said, adding that in the last six months the number of programmes organised by the faculty too have seen a significant rise.“As far as the affiliation is concerned, the inspection has already been done and we are awaiting the report which we have been informed is very positive,” she said. VADODARA: M S University’s Faculty of Law witnessed a major ruckus on Saturday as a group of student representatives staged a mass protest against professor Bhavna Mehta, the officer on special duty (OSD) who is serving as in-charge dean of the faculty.Alleging that the current in-charge dean is not even bothered to come to the faculty regularly and addressing grievances of students, the group of students demanded that the university should put a permanent dean at the faculty who can work efficiently.The agitated students alleged that the faculty’s reputation was put at risk by the in-charge dean as invitation extended to senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy who had confirmed his presence at the National Youth Summit held on February 2 was cancelled on the grounds that the summit was postponed as students were busy with placement fair whereas the summit did take place.The group of students led by faculty general secretary (FGS) Siddharth Relan and faculty representative Parth Surti also claimed that the faculty did not receive affiliation from the Bar Council of India (BCI) because the moot court room has not been constructed and the faculty does not fulfil the required parameters.“Instead of earlier timings which were from 9 am to 1.30 pm, the timings have been revised from 8 am to 2.30 pm.
