Vadodara: The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has issued closure notice to a fertilizer manufacturing and trading company in the city, as well as slapped a fine on it for flouting air pollution norms.GPCB regional director, Neeraj Shah said that they will revisit Coromandel International Ltd (CIL) after a period of time to check if the firm’s management has started complying with the necessary environ norms. GPCB officials inspected the company’s Nandesari-GIDC plant on January 29 this year and found that the unit’s air pollution control measures (APCM) were not functioning efficiently. “Also, the online monitoring system for the check of particulate matter was not working which is mandatory for this type of an industry. Even the online instruments attached to their manufacturing unit showed high HF emission, almost three times the permissible limit,” said a note released by the GPCB.Looking at the unit’s high emission level, the board issued a closure order on February 4 under the provisions of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1921. Also, the company’s bank guarantee of Rs 5 lakh has been forfeited by GPCB. “As per norms, power and water supply to the unit has been disconnected and it has been closed down. We will revisit the company later to check if they have started complying with the necessary norms,” Shah added.
