Three loan sharks booked for extortion

When Arvind told the accused that he had paid them more than the principal amount, they hurled abuses at him and asked him to vacate his house.tnn Vadodara: Three moneylenders were booked on Wednesday for extortion and threatening an idol maker living on RV Desai Road.The idol maker, Arvind Prajapati, had borrowed Rs 50,000 from the accused Mahesh Prajapati and Arvind Thakkar in March last year for preparing idols ahead of Ganesh festivities. The accused took couple of blank cheques, his car’s registration documents and gold ornament from Arvind as security.In November last year, when Arvind stopped paying money, the third accused Vijay Thakkar went to his home and threatened him. Arvind was asked to shell off more money as he had stopped paying the money.The complainant told that the accused used to send him threats through messages on phone and also call him. As the money was borrowed at a high interest rate, Mahesh was paying interest amount of Rs 25,000 to the duo every week.Arvind claimed that within four months, he had paid Rs 10 lakh as interest amount to the duo yet they were asking him to return the principal amount.
