Gang of burglars from Surat busted, three held

VADODARA: The prevention of crime branch (PCB) has busted a gang that had committed series of burglaries and loot in different cities of the state and arrested three persons, all residents of Surat. In January this year, the gang had broken into eight to 10 offices in Karelibaug area in the city. The police said that the gang was arrested in the past and had come out of jail on bail in January this year. The cops kept a watch in the area and nabbed Vaibhav Sakariya (30), Rahul Thakore (25) and Janak Solanki (31). They used to travel to Goa, Mumbai and Delhi by air and splurge money in pubs,” Kanamiya said.

VADODARA: The prevention of crime branch (PCB) has busted a gang that had committed series of burglaries and loot in different cities of the state and arrested three persons, all residents of Surat. They have also seized a stolen laptop, mobile phones and a camera from them.PCB sleuths had received a tip-off that three persons were to reach Amitnagar Circle on Tuesday for selling a laptop and camera. The cops kept a watch in the area and nabbed Vaibhav Sakariya (30), Rahul Thakore (25) and Janak Solanki (31). “We found a camera, a battery, one laptop with charger from them. They couldn’t produce any bill so we questioned them further,” said R C Kanamiya, police inspector, PCB.The accused then admitted to have stolen the gadgets from an office in Karelibaug area about a month-and-half go. Investigations revealed that the gang was involved in number of crimes across the state. Rahul was involved in a gold loot case worth Rs 80 lakhs in Rajkot in 2016. He was also accused of cheating two persons in Rajkot and 11 cases of burglaries in Surat.Janak is accused in one burglary case in Rajkot and five similar crimes in Surat. In January this year, the gang had broken into eight to 10 offices in Karelibaug area in the city. The police said that the gang was arrested in the past and had come out of jail on bail in January this year. “They were planning to commit burglaries at a private firm in Alkapuri, a diamond showroom, a jewellery showroom and a mobile shop on Makarpura Road,” Kanamiya told TOI.All the three used to live a lavish life style. “They knew that they can’t buy costly items out of the stolen cash and keep it at home. So, the trio used to splurge money on travelling and living a leisurely life. They used to travel to Goa, Mumbai and Delhi by air and splurge money in pubs,” Kanamiya said.
