MSU alumnus to forge tie-ups on precision drugs

With this intent, he is trying to forge collaboration between faculties of science, technology and engineering and even medicine in Indian universities, especially state universities of Gujarat.“Right now, most medications and drugs are developed in Europe and the United States. Dave, who is associated with the University of South Florida, had graduated from M S University around three decades ago. He was one among the first batch of MSU’s biotechnology department when it was started under leadership of V V Modi in 1985. Dave now wants to create a platform where data scientists of the country can work together to study minutely India’s own genome sequence. With this intent, he is trying to forge collaboration between faculties of science, technology and engineering and even medicine in Indian universities, especially state universities of Gujarat.“Right now, most medications and drugs are developed in Europe and the United States. They develop these medications based on the studies that they have carried out on their homogeneous population,” explained Dave, who has already visited Gujarat University and Nirma University to try and evolve a cross departmental syllabus.“The idea is to approach state universities including MSU so that there is cross departmental work,” he said, adding that, “We can see how at least some courses are taught across all the departments, not just at undergraduate level but postgraduate and PhD level as well.”
