Vadodara adds over 40,000 new voters

“If a 100-year-old lady or visually impaired or physically disabled persons exercise their voting rights despite the odds that they face, there is no reason why youngsters should not participate in this democratic process,” she said while addressing the gathering.Of the 24.05 lakh voters who have been registered so far, the maximum number of voters – 5.84 lakh - fall in the age group of 30 to 39 years followed by 4.95 lakh voters in the age group of 40 to 49 years. VADODARA: Around 40,000 youngsters will for the first time become eligible to exercise their voting right in Vadodara during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections As of January 31, the district had 34,175 voters registered in the age group of 18 to 19 years while the district administration has received applications from nearly 5,813 individuals who want to register themselves as voters.The election machinery on Monday also launched campaign to promote voting amongst first time voters at M S University campus while it has started appointing ambassadors in education institutes across the district.“We have appointed RJs as ambassadors and already conducted meeting with 20 youth who have been appointed as campus ambassadors to promote voting amongst the first time voters,” said Vadodara district collector and election officer Shalini Agrawal.“Further, we will be involving youth icons, spreading awareness messages on social media as well as electronic and print media to promote voting amongst youngsters,” she said.The campus ambassadors have been asked to clarify doubts if any regarding the EPIC cards, enrollment process, polling booths and stations in their respective campuses.At MSU’s C C Mehta auditorium, school children presented a skit on the voting process.
