Statue of Unity on the road to becoming plastic-free, offer flavoured Narmada water

World`s Tallest Statue, Statue of Unity is on a boom since its inauguration. After achieving the highest number of visitors in a year, SoU is going to be plastic free.

As per the reports, the Forest Department is going to introduce reusable glass water bottles. However, those bottles will have filtered and pure Narmada water, instead of simple RO water that comes packaged in plastic drinking water bottles. Also, the water will be mixed with weather-based herb flavours, such as tulsi during the rainy season, ginger in the winter season, and mint and fennel as coolants during summer.

This environmental-friendly initiative has been named Ekta Paani  and it aims for zero-waste based on a circular economy concept. Providing details about this initiative, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Narmada Pratik Pandya, stated that the packaging unit will be set up at Ekta Nursery at Kevadiya and will be run by Ekta Mahila Mandal Trust in association with the Vadodara-based start-up, Srishti Lifescience.

He added that the initiative will be instrumental in reducing the issue of plastic waste and that a glass bottle plant will be set up at an investment of 15 lakh, which will be run exclusively by the local tribal ladies.

Reports suggest that initially, the production capacity of the plant will be 3000 bottles per day, which will gradually be increased to up to 14000 bottles daily. Consumers can return the empty bottles for an attractive buyback pricing or even choose to carry it home as a Statue of Unity memoir.
