Vadodara: The scary incident of an M S University (MSU) girl student being stalked and asked obscene questions by a pervert in Kamatibaug has once again highlighted the lackadaisical attitude of the security at the garden. The security guards refusal to help her was all the more shocking. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) garden has security guards deployed by a private agency. The efficiency of the security there has been questioned in the past as well due to incidents of sandalwood tree thefts as well as that of exotic birds from the zoo attached to the garden. Those present at the spot when the crime happened erupted pointed out that a security guard seemed unwilling to intervene. "Only after much persuation, he called a senior person who came to the spot. By then, the accused had left the place. Later, the senior security person asked the girl if she had clicked a picture of the accused on her phone. But the man could have been easily apprehended instead of asking for a picture," said an eyewitness. The only means of communication that the guards have in the vast campus is their cellular phones or whistles. The civic body has installed CCTV cameras in the campus after repeated incidents of thefts but the feed from these cameras can be seen in the police control room. The VMC has no such facility at the garden to ensure that any immediate steps can be taken if something out of place happens there. The girl who faced the trauma registered an offence at the Sayajigunj police station late on Wednesday night. In charge Sayajigunj police inspector Y B Jadeja said that no CCTV footage was available from the site of offence as there was no camera there. He added that sleuths were now trying to speak to eyewitnesses and others to try and identify the accused.
