Gujarat woman saves cousin from crocodile attack

When she was fetching water, a crocodile suddenly dragged her feet with its terrifying jaws.Her elder sister Sudha Rathodiya, who heard her screams, rushed to the spot. VADODARA: In a heroic act, a woman saved her 26-year-old cousin sister from the jaws of a crocodile in Vishwamitri River on the outskirts of the city. "After hearing my sister scream, I thought of nothing else and started attacking the reptile who was holding her leg. Later, Vidya, whose husband works as casual labourer, was shifted to SSG Hospital in 108 GVK EMRI ambulance, police sources said. We had never seen any crocodile on this part of the river.

VADODARA: In a heroic act, a woman saved her 26-year-old cousin sister from the jaws of a crocodile in Vishwamitri River on the outskirts of the city. Vidya Rathodiya had gone to bring some fire wood on the banks of the river that passes between Virod and Pillol villages near Harni in Vadodara taluka.Tired Vidya later went to the river to satisfy her thirst. When she was fetching water, a crocodile suddenly dragged her feet with its terrifying jaws.Her elder sister Sudha Rathodiya, who heard her screams, rushed to the spot. Sudha first punched the crocodile and then attacked it with wooden stick.After the battle which continued for couple of minutes, the reptile released Vidya and retreated in the river.The incident happened at around 1.30 pm on Monday. Later, Vidya, whose husband works as casual labourer, was shifted to SSG Hospital in 108 GVK EMRI ambulance, police sources said."I usually stay inside our hut to complete daily chores. We had never seen any crocodile on this part of the river. I was totally terrified at the sight of the crocodile when it attacked me and had started screaming for help," said Vidya, who is undergoing treatment at the emergency ward of the state-run hospital.Doctors at SSG Hospital on Tuesday said that Vidya, mother of two kids, who has received injuries on her leg and her left hand after the crocodile bite her, will be discharged soon."After hearing my sister scream, I thought of nothing else and started attacking the reptile who was holding her leg. All this happened in a spur of moment. I don't know whether the crocodile was fully grown or not. But I had to save my younger sister," said Sudha.In a similar incident about two years back, an auto rickshaw driver had rescued a 17-year-old youth from the jaws of a crocodile near Bhimnath bridge in Sayajigunj area of the city.
