17 held for rioting in Shinor over registration to milk co-op

Vadodara: Seventeen persons were arrested by Vadodara rural police on Friday for rioting at Malpur village of Shinor taluka in connection with past rift over registration of some villagers in local milk co-operative society. "Often the villagers get into arguments which lead to fights, but what happened on Thursday midnight was quite grave. While the matter was settled there, Saiyed, his brothers and several other persons came to his house and started arguing with him, Mayur said. On the basis of the complaints we have arrested all persons who were identified in the FIR," said P N Singh, police sub-inspector, Shinor police station.All 17 accused were sent to judicial custody on Saturday. Saiyed and others then allegedly thrashed Mayur with wooden sticks.When the police was informed about the fight in the village, they reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Two complaints, including one under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, were registered at Shinor police station.Raju Vasava, one of the complainants who was also arrested as his name appeared in the cross complaint, told the police that Mayur Patel, Chirag Patel, Dilip Patel, Himanshu Patel and Bharat Patel were threatening Razaq Hussain alias Babu Saiyed, former sarpanch of Malpur village for submitting an application to the office of district registrar for registering Vasava and several other members of his community to the milk co-operative society of the village.Police said that Vasava had told Saiyed to file an application after the senior members of Patel community refused to register them even when they had been giving milk at the village society. After threatening Saiyed to withdraw his application, the accused beat him up and his 12 supporters.On the other hand Mayur in his complaint said that Saiyed and others had got into arguments with him and the office bearers of the milk cooperative society during the hearing on Saiyed's application at the registrar's office. While the matter was settled there, Saiyed, his brothers and several other persons came to his house and started arguing with him, Mayur said. Saiyed and others then allegedly thrashed Mayur with wooden sticks.When the police was informed about the fight in the village, they reached the spot and controlled the situation. But, in the melee two villagers were injured. "Often the villagers get into arguments which lead to fights, but what happened on Thursday midnight was quite grave. On the basis of the complaints we have arrested all persons who were identified in the FIR," said P N Singh, police sub-inspector, Shinor police station.All 17 accused were sent to judicial custody on Saturday.
