VARANASI: Unrest prevailed in the locality after some anti social elements damaged the statue of BR Ambedkar at Sardaspur village in Rasara police station area of Ballia district on Tuesday night. The local administration swung into action and replaced the damaged statue on Wednesday. An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons.According to reports, the incident took place around 2am at night. The police patrolling party noticed some miscreants standing near the Ambedkar statue. Seeing the police they fled from the scene in an SUV. Though the police tried to chase them, but they managed to escape. The Rasara inspector Jagdish Chandra Yadav said that one of the hands of the statue was found damaged.Taking a prompt action the local administration replaced the vandalized statue and installed a new one. The Ballia SP Shriparna Ganguli said that a case has been registered against unidentified persons. There is no issue of law and order in the locality, she said adding that efforts are being made to trace out the miscreants.Recently, a statue of Ambedkar was also found vandalized at Gajna village in Gaura Badshahpur area of Jaunpur district on the eve of his birth anniversary on April 13.The damaged statue was repaired promptly by the local administration.
