In Naxal-hit villages, all-women 'green brigade' is doing wonders

VARANASI: Village women of the Naxal-affected western UP district Mirjapur formed a Green Brigade and opened a war against gambling, alcoholism and crime against women and children. 'Hope' made a brigade of 150 women in February. They trained these women, provided them green dresses and called them Police Mitra.Simri, Hinauta, Dhanseria, Bhawanipur, Kudi, Dadra, Rajgarh and Nadihar villages have seen fall in alcoholism and increase in number of kids going to school. Seeing their spirit, Mirjapur SP Ashish Tiwari helped those students. They make hand-prints on the walls of houses which are freed.

The impact is visible in three months as the number of such houses has touched 300.A foundation named 'Hope' with students from universities - BHU, Kashi Vidyapeeth, JNU and DU - attempted to bring the Naxals to the mainstream.
