VARANASI: A Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped at a village in Haldi police station area of Ballia district on Friday evening. The accused was absconding.According to reports, the tempo driver Afzal allegedly lured the girl to a lonely place and started obscene activities with her and also hurt her private parts. Hearing her cries the local residents rushed to the place, but the man managed to flee.The police said that the case was registered and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused. On the complaints of girl’s father the police lodged an FIR against the accused under sections 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 294 (obscene acts and songs) of IPC and POCSO Act. After returning home she narrated the ordeal to her family.The police said that the woman was sent for medical examination, and a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.In another incident, there was an alleged attempt to outrage the modesty of a six-year-old girl by a tempo driver in Rasra police station area of Ballia district on Friday evening.
