Process of signage changing to rename Mughalsarai station begins

After coming to power the Yogi Adityanath government had decided to rename Mughalsarai town as DDU Nagar and also the Mughalsarai Junction. VARANASI: With the beginning of signage changing process at the platforms on Friday, the century-old Mughalsarai railway station in Chandauli district is all set to bear a new identity -Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction shortly, though it has already been renamed officially after UP government issued gazette notification in the first week of June. Later, the railway officials erected a symbolic pole and also mentioned its number on September 24, 2017, said public relation inspector of ECR’s Mughalsarai division GK Singh. It has been a key station of the East Central Railway (ECR) linking New Delhi to Kolkata with movement of around 250 trains on a single day. After UP Governor Ram Naik gave his consent for renaming of the station, the UP government issued a notification in this regard on June 4.

According to railway authorities, formal launching of the new name will be done shortly after making other changes in software and station code for online ticketing.The labourers have been engaged to wipe off the old name Mughalsarai and paint new insignia Deen Dayal Upadhyaya at the platforms and other points of this iconic railway station that was set up during British rule when the railway tracks crossed the place in 1862. It has been a key station of the East Central Railway (ECR) linking New Delhi to Kolkata with movement of around 250 trains on a single day."We have already got the approval of name change, and the process is on to be fully prepared for the formal launching of the renamed station," the divisional railway manager (DRM) Pankaj Saxena told TOI on Friday adding that the launching date is yet to be decided. Besides the change in signage, there are lots of things to do with the involvement of various departments before formal launching, he said adding that the changes in software and station code would be done for online booking of tickets.The railway minister Piyush Goyal through his tweet had announced the renaming of Mughalsarai on October 13, 2017. After UP Governor Ram Naik gave his consent for renaming of the station, the UP government issued a notification in this regard on June 4. The name of Mughalsarai township was formally changed as DDU Nagar on September 12.In September 2017 a group of Swadeshi Jagran Manch activities led by prantiya sampark pramukh, Anand Srivastava searched the place when pole (no 673/1276) existed in past in Mughalsarai railway station’s yard, where RSS ideologue Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya was found dead on February 11, 1968. Later, the railway officials erected a symbolic pole and also mentioned its number on September 24, 2017, said public relation inspector of ECR’s Mughalsarai division GK Singh.
