Mughalsarai Junction to become history from next week

For the renaming of railway station after RSS ideologue Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, the UP cabinet had passed proposals, including the renaming of Mughalsarai township, in June 2017. 673/1276) of the railway station on February 24, 1968. Goyal had through a tweet announced the renaming of Mughalsarai on October 13, 2017. On July 6, the process of changing signage at platforms was also started as ECR officials engaged labourers to wipe off the old name Mughalsarai. Finally, governor Ram Naik gave his consent for the station's renaming and UP government issued a notification in this regard on June 4, 2018.

VARANASI: Come August 5 and the name of one of busiest railway stations of Indian railways and the biggest goods train yard of Asia - Mughalsarai Junction - will become a part of history.The East Central Railway will be hosting a grand function at Mughalsarai railway station premises on August 5 when railway minister Piyush Goyal will formally unveil the boards of the new name - Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, in the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath.Talking to TOI on Sunday, divisional railway manager, Mughalsarai, Pankaj Saxena said, "We have received the tentative itinerary of railway minister Piyush Goyal, who is arriving here on August 5 to attend the function for formal renaming of the junction. We have started preparations accordingly." For the renaming of railway station after RSS ideologue Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, the UP cabinet had passed proposals, including the renaming of Mughalsarai township, in June 2017. The renaming of Mughalsarai town was done on September 12, 2017 whence it became DDU Palika Parishad.The formal renaming of Mughalsarai Junction was, however, delayed due to various formalities like approval of Union ministry of home affairs and UP governor as well as required changes in software for railways internal operations and ticketing system.The Yogi government had decided the renaming after Upadhyaya as he had been found dead near pole (no. 673/1276) of the railway station on February 24, 1968. Goyal had through a tweet announced the renaming of Mughalsarai on October 13, 2017. But, the other formalities could not be done for few more months. Finally, governor Ram Naik gave his consent for the station's renaming and UP government issued a notification in this regard on June 4, 2018. On July 6, the process of changing signage at platforms was also started as ECR officials engaged labourers to wipe off the old name Mughalsarai.
