The singer who dabbles a lot in Punjabi folk songs, says, "UP is a treasure trove of some great folk music. I did the show because it was a different show dedicated to sufi and folk music. There are several Bollywood songs that are inspired by folk songs of UP. "Harshdeep, who had won the music reality show, 'Junoon: Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka', says, "Participants should not solely depend on reality shows to achieve what they aspire for. However, some of the folk songs have remained hidden.

Singer Harshdeep Kaur , who has crooned numbers like ' Dilbaro ' in 'Raazi', 'Katiya Karoon' and 'Sachi Muchi', was in Varanasi to perform at a private function. The ace singer, who was there just for a day, regrets not being able to spare time to go around the city. "It was a hectic schedule so I didn’t get the chance to go to the ghats and the temple on this visit of mine. I need to come again to Banaras. In fact, I have been to the city earlier also but that was years ago, to participate in a sangeet mahotsava and had gone on a shopping spree. I had bought an exquisite Banarasi sari for my mother then, which is her favourite sari till date. I had heard that people of Varanasi are foodies and they love good food. I too got the chance to taste the Banarasi delicacies and I would say they are super delicious," says the singer. The singer who dabbles a lot in Punjabi folk songs, says, "UP is a treasure trove of some great folk music. There are several Bollywood songs that are inspired by folk songs of UP. However, some of the folk songs have remained hidden. The best way to popularize such music is through social media. Singers who hail from UP should sing these songs in their voice and put it online so that the youngsters are able to know about our folk traditions."Harshdeep, who had won the music reality show, 'Junoon: Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka', says, "Participants should not solely depend on reality shows to achieve what they aspire for. Hamein yeh nahi sochna chaiye ki koi reality show hamari zindagi bana dega. These talent hunt shows are like any other singing show. In fact, it is the personal effort of the artist that matters more. The journey begins for the participants after the show is over. When I had participated in the show I had already sung for films and music composers like AR Rahman sir. I did the show because it was a different show dedicated to sufi and folk music. The show helped me not in the sense that it gave me work in films but people started recognising me as the show was telecast every week."Harshdeep goes on to add, "So you become a face once you are part of such shows. We cannot blame reality shows that it gives just 15-minutes of fame to the winner, as the individual effort counts where the participants reach later on in their career."The singer, who has rendered song for Anurag Kashyap’s forthcoming film Manmarziyan, says, "Though I had crooned a variety of songs for Bollywood, when it comes Punjabi folk songs or sufi songs, I am given preference by music composers because of my Punjabi background. They believe my pronunciation and voice suits such songs more."The 'Dilbaro' singer is of the opinion that the trend in Bollywood of multiple singers singing the same track, with the artist not knowing whose voice will be retained, should be handled more tactfully. "The situation of suspense should not be maintained till the very last moment and the artist should be properly informed and should be given the respect which he or she deserves," she says. The pretty singer, who has been offered roles in both Hindi and Punjabi films, says, "Music is my first love but if something interesting related to music comes up, I might give it a thought."
