Varanasi: Boatmen protest against first cruise service

ByVARANASI: Even before it's inauguration the first ever luxury cruise service in Varanasi is facing opposition by the local boatmen. On 15 August they will protest against the inauguration of the cruise service at Varanasi's Khidkiya Ghat To promote tourism in Varanasi, Nardik Cruiseline is starting cruise services from August 15. The AC cruise service will also be available for wedding ceremony and corporate meetings. The cruise service Alaknanda is scheduled to start this Independence Day and will operate between some major ghats of River Ganga The boat operators have announced that they will not let this service run as it will hamper their livelihood. The double decker cruise will run between the famous Assi Ghat and Pachganga Ghat.

On 15 August they will protest against the inauguration of the cruise service at Varanasi's Khidkiya Ghat To promote tourism in Varanasi, Nardik Cruiseline is starting cruise services from August 15. The double decker cruise will run between the famous Assi Ghat and Pachganga Ghat. The services will also be expanded as per the water level and will run between Kaithi to Chunar in future.The tourism department has planned to introduce more cruise services in Varanasi for promoting tourism in future, but the boatmen say that this initiative will affect their income hence affecting their livelihood.The Alaknanda Cruise Service will cost Rs.750 from each passenger for 'Kashi Darshan'. The AC cruise service will also be available for wedding ceremony and corporate meetings.
