UP: Muslim woman celebrates Rakshabandhan with portraits of PM Modi, Yogi Adityanath

VARANASI: Considering Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath as her brothers a Muslim woman in UP’s Ballia district celebrated Rakshabandhan festival on Sunday with their portraits. She plans to send these paintings to Modi and Yogi.She firmly believes that her ‘two brothers’ would protect the rights of their Muslim sisters. “I made these paintings to show my respect to PM Modi and CM Yogi as my brothers,” said Nagma, who was allegedly thrown out of house by her husband and in-laws last year for making portraits of Modi and Yogi. Her in-laws branded her mad and threw her out of house forcing her to take shelter at her parents’ house. Nagma had made the portraits following the Supreme Court verdict invalidating the instant triple talaq.According to her father Shamsher Khan, she drew portraits of Modi and Yogi and showed them to her husband, following which, her husband lost his cool and beat her up.

In these paintings made by her she is shown tying Rakhis to them.“As I can’t reach out to Modi ji and Yogi ji, I tied Rakhis to them this way,” said 25-year-old Nagma , a resident of Maturi village in Sikanderpur area of Ballia district. “I made these paintings to show my respect to PM Modi and CM Yogi as my brothers,” said Nagma, who was allegedly thrown out of house by her husband and in-laws last year for making portraits of Modi and Yogi. She plans to send these paintings to Modi and Yogi.She firmly believes that her ‘two brothers’ would protect the rights of their Muslim sisters. Hailing PM’s stand on triple talaq, she said that it has brought a ray of hope among Muslim women to get justice.Nagma had married Pervez Khan of Basarikpur village under the Sikandarpur police station area in November 2016. Nagma had made the portraits following the Supreme Court verdict invalidating the instant triple talaq.According to her father Shamsher Khan, she drew portraits of Modi and Yogi and showed them to her husband, following which, her husband lost his cool and beat her up. Her in-laws branded her mad and threw her out of house forcing her to take shelter at her parents’ house. She had also lodged an FIR with Sikanderpur police station under sections 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 497 (adultery) of IPC in July 2017.
