Tradition continues in city, camels sacrificed in open

In Salempura area, two camels were sacrificed on two consecutive days.However, the organising committee associated with camel sacrifice reportedly contacted offices of magistrates concerned to get formal permission. The district administration and police ensured strict compliance of traffic restrictions on city routes to avoid disturbance during the period of namaz. People offered namaz at 289 mosques and eidgahs in the city. Maximum gathering was witnessed at Laat Saraiyya, Englishialine, Faatman, Langra Hafiz and Gyanvapi mosques. But ADM city Virendra Pandey said, "As the tradition is continuing for more than six decades and its records are maintained in 'thana register' (record registers of police stations concerned) there is no need to take permission from magistrates.

VARANASI: Despite chief minister Yogi Adityanath 's directives that no animal sacrifice will take place in open, four Muslim-dominated localities of the city followed the 60-decades old tradition of sacrificing a camel , a day after Eid-ul-Zuha, on Thursday.Camels were sacrificed in Pachpedav ground of Madanpura under Dashaswamedh police station, Salempura in Adampura, Jalaluddinpur and Dhannipura of Jaitpura police station area. In Salempura area, two camels were sacrificed on two consecutive days.However, the organising committee associated with camel sacrifice reportedly contacted offices of magistrates concerned to get formal permission. But ADM city Virendra Pandey said, "As the tradition is continuing for more than six decades and its records are maintained in 'thana register' (record registers of police stations concerned) there is no need to take permission from magistrates."Also, the Varanasi Municipal Corporation had deployed additional teams of sanitary staff and arranged waste containers in the four localities, which worked round-the-clock on Wednesday and Thursday.Earlier, on Wednesday, Eid-ul-Zuha was celebrated with religious fervour. People offered namaz at 289 mosques and eidgahs in the city. Maximum gathering was witnessed at Laat Saraiyya, Englishialine, Faatman, Langra Hafiz and Gyanvapi mosques. The district administration and police ensured strict compliance of traffic restrictions on city routes to avoid disturbance during the period of namaz. Post-namaz, series of sacrificing animals started. Markets and multiplexes were flooded from late afternoon with revelers.
