VARANASI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday directed BJP workers to protect poor people from moneylenders by promoting the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.He also asked the party workers to ensure that the NRI meet, proposed to be held in Varanasi from January 21 to 23, is treated as an event for the natives of Kashi and not as a party event. "Campaign for special cleanliness drive and NRI meet by displaying posters and flags of different countries on boats and bicycles," he told the party workers.While communicating with BJP cadres of his parliamentary constituency through Namo App for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, Modi not only answered to their questions but also gave tips for promoting government schemes and make party functioning more effective.On Tuesday, the office-bearers and members of party's assembly area-wise sector units got the opportunity to interact with Modi. Three sector chiefs - Deepak Rai of Ravidas sector, Madhup Singh of Cantt and Prem Shankar Pathak - got the opportunity to put up their questions before him.When Rai drew Modi's attention towards woes of the people from weaker sections of the society due to the menace of moneylenders, the PM said: "Party's ground level workers should get connected with the poor people, including weavers, who are still in the clutches of moneylenders and mobilise them to utilizing the benefits of Mudra scheme and banks."Modi also called upon the cadres to ensure maximum participation of locals in a special sanitation drive to be held between September 15 and October 2 to give a cleaner look to the city before the arrival of NRIs for the meet."On reaching here, NRI guests should feel that they are at their home. While hosting the guests, we should ensure good behaviour with them. Auto drivers and local traders should also charge genuine prices for their services and goods," said Modi expressing confidence that people of the city will consider the NRI meet as their own event.Modi said that people of this city made the visit of head of nations of Japan, France and Germany memorable for them as they recall it during their international tours. He said that success of NRI meet will attract investments for the city, which will accelerate the pace of economic development here.When Singh and Pathak sought tips on strengthening the party and taking the achievements of government to the people, Modi said: "The party workers should perform like protectors of democracy instead of working only for a political party.
