GORAKHPUR: Almost a month after Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University student union elections were postponed, the Allahabad high court on Friday asked university authorities whether they plan to conduct the polls or not and if yes, then when.The court was hearing a petition filed by an independent candidate Anil Dubey. Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta in his order, on October 5, said, "In the affidavit to be filed by the Registrar, he shall indicate whether the University proposes to hold election of student union or not and if it proposes to hold the election, then when."DDU Gorakhpur University had postponed student union election after two groups clashed while campaigning on September 11. One group had manhandled teachers of the law faculty.Police had used light force to control the situation after which the university postponed the election. Since then, the student leaders have been staging protest and demanding that the union election be held.In 2016, student union election were held after a decade."On Friday, the high court asked university whether it has the intention to hold student union election or not and also asked the tentative date. The next hearing will be on October 9," said the petitioner Anil Dubey.
